Frontier Communications Fourth Quarter Earnings Sneak Peek ...

S&P 500 (NYSE:SPY) component Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR) will unveil its latest earnings on Thursday, February 16, 2012. Frontier Communications provides telecommunications services to rural areas and small and medium-sized towns and cities.

Wall St. Earnings Expectations: The average estimate of analysts is for profit of 5 cents per share, no change from the company?s actual earnings for the same quarter a year ago. The average estimate is the same as three months ago. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate was unchanged. It also has not changed during the last month. Analysts are projecting profit to rise by 40.5% versus last year to 22 cents.

Past Earnings Performance: The company has met estimates the last three quarters. Last quarter, the company reported net income of 5 cents per share to fall in step with the mean estimate.

A Look Back: In the third quarter, profit fell 29.7% to $20.4 million (2 cents a share) from $29 million (3 cents a share) the year earlier, meeting analyst expectations. Revenue fell 8% to $1.29 billion from $1.4 billion.

Key Stats:

A year-over-year revenue decrease in the third quarter interrupted a streak of three consecutive quarters of revenue increases. Revenue rose more than twofoldin the second quarter, more than twofold in the first quarter and more than twofold in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year.

The company has seen net income fall in each of the last two quarters. Net income dropped 8.1% in the second quarter.

Stock Price Performance: Between November 14, 2011 and February 10, 2012, the stock price fell $1.34 (-24.9%), from $5.38 to $4.04. The stock price saw one of its best stretches over the last year between August 25, 2011 and August 31, 2011, when shares rose for five straight days, increasing 4% (+27 cents) over that span. It saw one of its worst periods between December 6, 2011 and December 15, 2011 when shares fell for eight straight days, dropping 13.1% (-73 cents) over that span.
